Dr. Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch just became a hero in real life by leaping to the defense of a cyclist under attack by four men.

The 41-year-old Hollywood actor jumped from a car to rescue a food delivery rider working for Deliveroo.

The victim was cornered by a group of muggers and was being beaten up when Benedict passed by in an Uber vehicle on Marylebone High Street, central London with his wife, Sophie Hunter.

The actor witnessed the cyclist being hit on the head with a bottle, that prompted Benedict to jump into danger.

“Benedict was courageous, brave and selfless. If he hadn’t stepped in the cyclist could have been seriously injured,” the driver of the car, Manuel Dias, told a newspaper on Saturday.

The muggers reportedly tried to hit Benedict but he defended himself and pushed them away. Luckily, he wasn’t injured.

“Then I think they also recognised it was Benedict and ran away,” said a witness.

“I did it out of, well, I had to, you know,” said Benedict.

The company Deliveroo thanked Benedict for his brave actions.

“Deliveroo riders are heroes – their safety is our priority and any violence against them is totally unacceptable. So on behalf of everyone at Deliveroo: thank you,” Deliveroo tweeted.

Police reportedly confirmed they had been called out to an assault on a delivery rider in his 20s but no suspects were caught on the scene.

Benedict Cumberbatch is known for his roles as “Sherlock Holmes” in a TV series and as “Dr. Stephen Strange” in the Marvel Universe.
