- Newly elected barangay officials were urged to install CCTVs in their areas
- The NCRPO said CCTVs are effective in preventing crimes
- NCRPO chief Cascolan said he will also encourage all Metro Manila mayors to help in installing CCTVs in communities
The newly elected officials of all the barangays in Metro manila were urged by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) to install closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) in their area of responsibility to help boost the government’s campaign against illegal drugs and anti-crimes drive.
As mentioned in a Manila Bulletin story dated May 21, 2018, NCRPO Chief Director Camilo Pancratius Cascolan said CCTVs proved to be effective in preventing crimes.
“We have been requesting for this to the barangays and local government units ever since I was the head of the Directorate for Operations because of the proven power of the CCTV as a reliable ‘eye’ of the law enforcement agencies against criminal elements,” Cascolan said.
“If every barangay in Metro Manila would install CCTVs, this would surely be a big help in maintaining peace and order since all criminals would think twice or even be discouraged to commit crimes knowing that they are being watched,” he added.
Aside from barangay officials, Cascolan said he will also encourage Metro Manila mayors to install as many CCTVs as possible.
