MANILA, Philippines – A former Filipino boxing champion has been arrested by authorities for allegedly peddling illegal drugs in Cavite on Sunday.
As per GMA News, ex-World Boxing Council (WBC) Flyweight Division champion Randy Mangubat was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation in Trece Martires, Cavite. Found in his possession were two packets of suspected shabu and the P200 marked money.
Mangubat, who has a 34-22-12 record, with 14 KO victory, admitted he went into drug peddling after retiring from the sports and going through marital and financial problems.
Mangubat’s last win was against compatriot Ricky Escaner in October 2005. His last professional bout was a loss to Thai boxer Tabtimdaeng Na Rachawat for the PABA Bantamweight title in Bangkok in 2006.
Meanwhile, Mangubat promised to throw away his bad habit and start all over again once he has completed his sentence.
He is currently detained at the Trece Martires municipal jail where he will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
