Coast Guard chief Elson Hermogino promoted to the rank of Admiral

President Rodrigo Duterte has promoted Elson Hermogino from Rear Admiral to the rank of Admiral, four months after Hermogino was appointed as commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

Hermogino is a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1985.

The Pangasinense finished his postgraduate studies at the World Maritime University in Malmo, Sweden, and earned a master’s degree in Maritime Administration in 1996.

He took over the leadership of the PCG in January.

According to the appointment papers released by Malacañang, Hermogino’s promotion to admiral was approved by Duterte on Tuesday.

Before being a commandant, Hermogino was the station commander of various PCG stations and eventually became the commander of Coast Guard districts in Bicol, Southern Tagalog, Northern Mindanao, and National Capital Region.

He had also handled major units such as the Maritime Safety Services Command and the Coast Guard Fleet.
