PCOO: China to continue providing scholarship, assistance to PH gov’t media

  • PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar said China promised to continue with its scholarship program to the Philippine government media
  • China is also set to provide Php100-million worth of assistance to PH media
  • Andanar expressed happiness after China’s Xi Jinping mentioned the importance of media exchange between PH, China, and the rest of ASEAN

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar disclosed that China promised to continue its scholarship program and is set to provide assistance to the Philippine government media.

According to an Inquirer story on Friday, Andanar reportedly said that China will keep up with its scholarships for the next four years and is set to provide Php100-million worth of assistance.

The PCOO Secretary said China’s commitment to helping the country’s government media improve its services is a “very good indication.”

The two countries, moreover, during President Rodrigo Duterte’s visit in China on Tuesday for the Bao Forum for Asia, signed letters to provide broadcasting equipment worth Php140.8-million for Malacañang’s communications office.

Andanar, as per a Bombo Radyo article, expressed his happiness with Chinese President Xi Jinping specifically mentioning the importance of media exchange between Philippines and China and the rest of ASEAN.

“Now! During the bilateral also, it also gave me a reason to be very-very happy, with Duterte because President Xi also mentioned specifically the importance of media exchange between the Philippines and China and the rest of ASEAN.”

“So this only means that the scholarships that China has been giving the country, the Philippines, specifically to the media members of government will continue for the next 4 years. So that was the first time that President Xi mentioned the importance of media exchange between our country and China.”

Though Chinese media are state-controlled, the Secretary said the Philippines has so much to learn from them in terms of management and technology.
