PCRG PNP has shared photos on Facebook showing the PNP chief as our local version of Santa Claus this holiday season and the caption goes:

‘Santa chief Bato’ gives gifts to less fortunate children and this guy knows if you’ve been naughty or nice. Police Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa gamely wore a red Santa outfit, complete with a thick beard and eyeglasses and handed gifts to some 120 children at SM Mega Mall for the activity organized by the Police Community Relations Group – Christmas with Chief Bato.

And true enough, many netizens shared their own photos of the heartwarming gift-giving event which was held at the popular SM Megamall on December 1, 2016.

The PNP chief, Ronald dela Rosa, complete with the Santa outfit and the iconic white beard, said as per a Rappler story: ‘Gusto ng pulis na bumawi, bumawi man rin sa mga bata’.

He reportedly told media people that most of the children at the pre-Christmas event are kids of surrenderers or had lost a parent because of the authorities’ anti-illegal drugs operations in the country, and the PNP wants to compensate their loss and grief by giving them a feel of early Christmas.

“So gusto ng pulis na bumawi, bumawi man rin sa mga bata. These children are innocent of whatever their parents did in the past. Ang kasalanan ni Pedro, hindi kasalanan ni Jose,” he said.

[So it is the police’s desire to make up with the kids’ loss. The sins of Pedro are not the sins of Jose.]

Santa Bato handed out toys such as police cars and stuffed animals which were sponsored by a number of commercial companies and also the SM Group.

Special performances by Tsip Bato Mascot, Tatay Digong, Tsip Bato and Da Adiks, and the NCRPO Fitness Team also graced the event.
