SANTA BARBARA, California – If many times you fail and thought nothing is happening right, always remember this lizard who survived being eaten by a snake — thanks to pure determination.

Harley Tamplin mentioned in his article for Metro published on June 18 that an incredible picture showing a lizard with his head poking out from the jaws of a massive king snake, on the verge of being swallowed alive, reemerged online and making rounds on the internet.

Looking at the picture, it turns out that there is no escape for the alligator lizard, however, with the little’s guy sheer determination, it was said that he escaped death by preventing to be swallowed by hanging on using his jaw.

The photo, which was originally taken in 2014, was snapped by California photographer Bryan Snyder.

“Although almost the entire lizard had been swallowed, the wily critter was hanging on with its powerful jaws, refusing to accept the inevitable,” Snyder said as quoted by an article published by Metro.

“It wore the snake’s head over its own as if it were a hooded sweatshirt, and cracked an eye open to gaze nonchalantly in my direction,” he added.

Snyder said he felt the lizard’s determination that time as if saying, “No big deal. I can keep this up all day if I have to”.

Snyder, who is said to be a naturalist affiliated with Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, revealed that the snake began to withdraw after a few minutes, although he had to rush off and couldn’t stay until the end.

After a few years, the photo resurfaced on Reddit, posted by a user under the name francoisbaguette who wrote, “Alligator lizard fighting back from the belly of a kingsnake. The lizard later won and escaped.”

Online users were all amazed on the lizard’s solid determination, with some of them hoping to see an actual photo where the lizard escaped the snake’s jaw.

“From within the jaws of defeat, victory is achieved,” said Reddit user vlasvilneous.
