MATTESON, Illinois – A man named Gambles seems to be living up to his name after he won the lottery twice using the same five numbers he plays every week.

Julina Jacobo mentioned in her article for ABC News published on June 24 that 65-year-old Larry Gambles, from Matteson, Illinois, has been buying lottery tickets every day for the last 15 years.

On the fated day of June 7, Gambles won more than $1 million dollars playing the Lucky Day Lotto, and nine years ago, he won $50,000 when it was still called the Little Lotto.

The man said he plays the numbers 01 – 06 – 12 – 14 – 25 every day, the numbers which represent the jersey number of one of his football heroes, his football and basketball jersey numbers when he played in high school, and the number he wore while in a fraternity at the University of Illinois.

“I always play the same numbers. I never change it,” he said.

An article by James Wilkinson for Mail Online said Gambles, who was a retired school administrator and worked for Chicago Public Schools, buys seven lottery tickets for the week from a gas station on his way home “in case there’s a snowstorm” or something that prevents him from getting there.

Gambles said he feels “extremely lucky” to have won the lottery a second time, however, the man doesn’t believe it has anything to do with his last name.

“I equate gambling with dice, cards and casinos. To me, lottery is just luck,” he said.

Once he receives his check, Gambles plans to set up annuities for his 34-year-old daughter and 3-year-old granddaughter. Aside from that, the lucky winner has no major plans for his winnings other than sharing with his family and friends.

“I will continue until I can’t play anymore. I feel very fortunate, and I feel blessed, and I’m very grateful,” Gambles said, adding that he will play the same number.
