  • Senator-elect Manny Pacquiao had dinner with incoming president Rodrigo Duterte in Davao City
  • The boxer-turned-politician said he has always been at the side of Duterte
  • Pacquiao, however, is included in Vice President Jejomar Binay’s party

Senator-elect Manny Pacquiao had dinner with incoming president Rodrigo Duterte in a hotel in Davao City; where the boxer-turned politician expressed support on the latter’s leadership.

In an article written by APG of GMA News, it was disclosed that Pacquiao was accompanied by wife Jinkee, while also in the table were Senators Pia Cayetano and Allan Peter Cayetano, Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, whistleblower and defeated senatorial candidate Sandra Cam, among others.

Pacquiao, who was recently proclaimed as a winning senatorial candidate, expressed support for the new administration.

Noon pa man hanggang ngayon ang suporta ko na kay Digong [Even before and until now, I have been supporting Digong],” Pacquiao responded when he was asked if he would join the majority bloc in the Senate in favor of the new administration.

Meanwhile, the athlete-turned-politician, who ran for Senator under the opposition party United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) with standard-bearer Vice President Jejomar Binay, shared that he was one of those who tried to convince Duterte to run for the highest post in the land.

When Duterte decided not to file a certificate of candidacy, Pacquiao said he then spoke with Binay and eventually agreed to join the outgoing vice president’s senatorial slate.

And when Duterte finally decided, Pacquiao chose to remain with Binay’s party; honoring his earlier commitment.

After a month, nag-decide siya na tumakbo kaso naka-commit na ako… kapag committed ka na sa isang tao, committed ka na, ‘wag ka nang lumipat [After a month, he decided to run. By that time, I was already committed with the other party… when you’re already committed to a person, you don’t change your mind],” he noted.

Moreover, the senator-elect stressed that even Binay is supportive of Duterte and the advocacies of his administration.
