Key to lasting marriage? Marry young and smart women

  • Research shows that a younger and smarter wife is the key to a happy marriage
  • The study was published in the European Journal of Operational Research
  • It examined the relationship of 1,000 married and long-term couples

A new research found that married couples are more likely to stay together if the wife has attained a higher education than her husband.

Published in the European Journal of Operational Research, the study examined 1,000 couples in long-time serious relationships or in a marriage.

Their findings showed that relationships with women of a younger age but with higher IQ than their men are stronger and longer-lasting.

“Their research suggests marital bliss for pop star Beyoncé Knowles, 33, and her husband, the rap mogul Jay-Z, who is 11 years older at 44. She is also better educated as he did not receive a high school diploma,” a Telegraph story wrote; citing the study.

And added: “while Michael Douglas, 70, is considerably older than his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, 45, the fact that he was previously divorced would count against them, the findings suggest.”

Meanwhile, another study said that being wedded to a smart woman means less chances of dementia for a man.

College of Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Aberdeen released the study last month which encourages men to marry intelligent women.

“The thing a boy is never told he needs to do if he wants to live a longer life – but what he should do – is marry an intelligent woman,” Professor Lawrence Whalley of the University of Aberdeen disclosed in a forum last month.

Whalley and his colleagues found that an intelligent partner stimulates activity in the brain and this could effectively reduce the risks of getting dementia and Alzheimer’s.
