- It is always nice to hear stories about exceptional cops and there’s one in Davao City
- One online user applauded a police officer from Davao City for his commendable character
- PO1 Ong to the usual ‘courtesy’ of drivers which is to spare police officers from paying for a ride: “..let’s change the old habit”
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – In this country where the reputation of the ‘Men in Uniform’ is often compromised – because a number of policemen are believed to be involved in drugs and other crimes, it is always reviving to read something positive about our ‘protectors’.
One social media user shared a ‘restoring’ experience he had with a law enforcer. While on board a jeepney on his way to work, Ipe Lomada overheard a police officer paying for his fare. And when the jeepney driver returned his money ‘as the usual courtesy’ of drivers to police or traffic officers as Lomada defined it, he was surprised by the cop’s reply:
“PULIS: “Boss, mubayad lang ko ha.. usabon nato ang daang kinaiya (Tagalog translation: “Boss, magbabayad lang ako ha, baguhin natin ang lumang pag-uugali, ang dating nakagawian”) [Boss, please get my fare, let’s change the old habit..]”
Lomada recalled a lady passenger jocosely said to the driver, “Manong, tanggapin n’yo na ‘yan.. malaki na rin naman ang sweldo nila ngayon [Mister, take his fare.. they have better salary now]”.
Lomada said he couldn’t take a photo of the police officer, but saw from his badge he was a Police Officer 1, and later named him PO1 Ong. He applauded the policeman and ended his post saying:
“Sa iyo po PO1 ONG ng DCPO karapat-dapat po sa iyo ang suot mong uniporme na may burdang “DAVAO CITY’S FINEST”. Saludo ako sa iyo Sir [To you PO1 Ong of DCPO, you deserve what is etched in the uniform you’re wearing, “DAVAO CITY’S FINEST”. I salute you, sir]!”
The post has gone viral with nearly 13,000 shares.
It is indeed true that change should start from within us. Kudos, PO1 Ong! With officers like you, we can all say that change is really coming.
