Robin Padilla Asks Drilon To Resign

rob drilonMANILA – Philippine cinema’s ‘bad boy’ has called for the senate president to step down.  In his Instagram account, Padilla posted a picture of an edited and exaggerated body of a pig with Drilon’s face and a caption – ‘Pig and Politician Crossbreeding’.

This came after the senate president initially denied receiving the controversial P50 Million ‘incentives’ after Sen. Jinggoy Estrada’s revelation in his privilege speech. Later on, Drilon ended admitting to have received the amount, but refused to accept it was a bribe.

However, the list that was subsequently released by DBM Sec. Florencio ‘Butch’ Abad showed that he, in fact, received P100 Million, twice the figure he previously declared and the most among the senators who voted in favor of former Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Along with Padilla’s controversial Instagram post was also a lengthy caption in Filipino that read:

Oras na para sa tunay na pagbabago at pagkapilipino,”  (The former DOJ secretary who sent me to jail for being arrogant and a hot head. Now, (Mr.) senator, you must show to the Filipino youth the honor and tactfulness you’ve sworn yourself to, along with your duty as the voice and the leader of our Motherland, and being the head of the Upper House (Senate), the Peaceful Revolution calls for your resignation and face the people’s court. Now is the time for a true change and for being a true Filipino)

The said post has drawn mixed reactions from Padilla’s followers. While some agreed with their idol’s rant, others also chided the actor for trying to involve himself in politics.

Drilon has not yet reacted to this issue. He however maintained in several interviews that the additional funds he received all went to infrastructure projects in Iloilo.

Robin Padilla, one of the most popular action stars in local show business was convicted of illegal possession of firearms in 1995 and was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment but was later pardoned in 1998 by former Pres. Fidel V. Ramos. Senate President Franklin Drilon was the Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary under the Ramos administration, he oversaw the conviction of Padilla.
