Grab suspends rude driver who tried to overcharge passenger

  • Grab suspended and ordered retraining on one of its drivers after he tried to overcharge its passenger
  • Passenger Lara Malunas complained that the driver asked P250 instead of the P200 rate
  • The Grab driver called her a nuisance and asked her to ride a tricycle instead

Grab took action on a complaint made by one of their passengers. They have already suspended one of their drivers for asking more than the fare rate.

Passenger Lara Shellene Malunas shared on Facebook a screenshot of her and a Grab driver’s conversation. It shows how the Grab driver asked for P250 instead of the P200 rate because he won’t be able to pick up any other passengers on his way back.

The conversation was quoted by GMA, wherein the unidentified driver reportedly texted Lara, “P250 po, wala po pasahero diyan pabalik.” [P250 because there are no passengers on the way back]

“Ay hindi po, P200 po talaga binabayad ko. Cancel mo na lang if ‘di kaya,” Lara replied. [No, I only pay P200 fare there. Cancel the transaction if you can’t take that.]

The driver then cursed her and advised her to take a tricycle instead. He said, “Mag-tricycle po kayo kung payag P200 o kaya mag-taxi kayo para mas mataga kayo. Bwisit.” [Take a tricycle if they will take P200 or take a taxi if you want to pay more. Nuisance]

The Grab management then ordered the driver to appear before them and “undergo retraining.”

Meanwhile, the The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) also confirmed that they have made plans to suspend the franchise of the said driver. “We do not like to give a franchise to someone who is already acting like that,” said LTFRB board member Aileen Lizada to GMA.
