- The cop who supplied firearms and uniforms to recently killed kidnappers was arrested
- The cop acted as the kidnappers’ adviser
- The rogue cop also supplied names of possible targets to the kidnappers
A police officer who supplied guns, bullets and fatigue uniforms to five kidnappers who were recently killed in an operation in San Pablo, Laguna has been arrested. The cop reportedly acted as the slain kidnappers’ adviser.
As per GMA News, the suspect, Senior Police Officer 2 (SPO2) Leo Leal Pamonag, assigned at the Sta. Rosa Police station in Laguna, has been placed under the custody of the Philippine National Police Anti-kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG).
PNP-AKG Director Senior Superintendent Glenn Dumlao said the kidnappers wearing fatigue uniforms was the rogue cop’s idea. He then supplied them with guns and bullets. It was also SPO2 Pamonag who provided the kidnappers with names of potential targets, mostly high-value drug suspects.
The group’s modus operandi, according to Dumlao, was to pose as anti-narcotics agents and then raid the houses of their targets. They would then ask for money in exchange for not filing illegal drug charges against their victims.
The five kidnappers, who were former security guards who posed as police officers, were slain during an entrapment operation in San Pablo, Laguna. They demanded P700,000 from the family of Rolando Arguelles, a high-value target of police in the CALBARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region.
An entrapment operation was launched after Arguelles’ family sought the assistance of the PNP-AKG.
All five kidnappers were slain in the operation. Unfortunately, a lady cop from Candelaria, Laguna was also killed, while 4 other cops were wounded.
