3 dead including father and son as gov’t troops, suspected rebels clash in CamSur

Three individuals died on the suspected rebels’ side while five others were arrested as they engaged in an hour-long gunfight with the government troops in Bato, Camarines Sur.

According to initial information from the Philippine Army, a father and his son were among those who got killed in the clash that occurred Tuesday morning in Barangay Payak.

One of the five arrested stressed that she’s not a member of the New People’s Army (NPA) and she’s just a civilian who passed by the area.

The authorities are currently investigating the identities of those who got killed and arrested.

No fatalities and injuries were reported on the government side.

Authorities said the armed group have been seen venturing the distant barangays of Bato and near the boundary of Albay for several days.
