“3 agreements and no preconditions”: NDFP open to resume peace talks with the government

  • The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) said they are willing to resume peace talks with the government
  • They added they only want the 3 agreements and no preconditions necessary
  • The Malacañang clarified that they must first see changes in NPA before resuming peace talks

The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) revealed that they are willing to go back to the negotiating table with the government without any preconditions.

Fidel Agcaoili, chief negotiator for the NDFP, admitted that they still have the documents supposed to be discussed prior to the cancellation of peace talks.

In an interview with ANC, Agcaoili said, “No preconditions. We sit down and talk on the basis of the 3 agreements, drafts we have prepared in October, which should have been discussed in November.”

“Had there been a formal meeting, all documents would have been signed. By this time, we would have what was offered or proposed by the government—a unilateral coordinated ceasefire,” the negotiator added.

The three agreements were coordinated ceasefire, general amnesty for political prisoners, and the signing of what was agreed upon by the reciprocal working committees.

However, it seems like the Palace isn’t too keen with the idea of resuming the peace talks yet. Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque urged the NPA to stop harassing civilians and lay down their arms before the government might consider returning to the negotiating table.
