25 dead, 56 hurt due to drowning, vehicular accidents during Holy Week — NDRRMC

  • The NDRRMC has recorded a total of 25 deaths and 56 injuries due to to drowning and vehicular accidents during the Holy Week
  • Majority of the fatalities were victims in drowning incidents
  • 17  of the 26 total incidents recorded by the NDRRMC happened in Calabarzon

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Sunday night that they have recorded a total of 25 deaths and 56 more were injured in Holy Week drowning incidents and vehicular accidents .

NDRRMC said that as of April 1, a total of 14 incidents of drowning in Calabarzon, Cagayan Valley, Mimaropa and Cordillera Autonomous Region while 12 vehicular accidents occurred in Ilocos, Calabarzon, and CAR.

Based on the NDRRMC report, majority of the fatalities were victims in drowning incidents.

Additionally, most of the incidents were recorded when most people were out on the road travelling or in beaches, on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

17 of the 26 total incidents recorded by the NDRRMC happened in Calabarzon.

NDRRMC earlier warned the public that drowning is the leading cause of fatal accidents during Holy Week.

Drowning surpassed the number of people who died of vehicular accidents during the season, based on NDRRMC annual data.
