Policemen found a woman walking aimlessly in the middle of a road in Fresno, California early this week. The woman claimed she is a mermaid named “Joanna.”

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office reported that detectives found the woman around 3:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, wandering in the middle of Millerton Road, south of Table Mountain Casino, in Fresno County after a concerned citizen informed authorities about her.

“She was wet, she said she had been in the lake, said she needed help and needed to be taken to the hospital,” a police officer said.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said they have identified the woman as a 33-year-old resident of Virginia and was visiting Fresno to see if it is a place she may want to move to one day. Authorities believed she is a victim of a crime so they decided not to reveal her name to protect her privacy.

A police flyer described the woman as 5’4” tall, with brown eyes and brown hair and weighs about 150 pounds. The flyer noted that the woman has webbed toes on both feet.
