Another inspiring story for everyone to learn and take a dose from.
A 21-year-old boy from Cebu City graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science as Summa Cum Laude from Cebu Institute of Technology University (CIT-U) on Saturday, March, 25.
He is Jireh Bautista, son of a shoe repairman, and has been a constant honor student since elementary where he graduated First Honor, and Valedictorian in High School.
Though poverty has stricken his family ever since, it never hindered him from studying. He didn’t cease to bring constant honors and recognitions from school and other institutions. In fact, he was even awarded a Medal of Excellence by ABS-CBN.
“Yes, graduating with honors may sound so overwhelming and is such a great achievement. But academics and school only take a portion of your entire life. It might give you an edge if you did well but there is more to life and you should not feel sad or less of yourself if you are not part of the honor list. What truly matters is your life story,” he said in his speech.
Bautista also helped his family financially through the monthly allowance he gets from his scholarship grants. He remembered going through difficult situations where they were buried in debt and his older sister Mary Ann was forced to stop her studies to give way to older brother Leobel Bryan.
Moreover, he gave an advice to the parents who are struggling to send their children to school to have faith in God and to never lose hope.
Though there are several job opportunities that are starting to knock on his doorstep, he still hasn’t decided yet. He wants to make sure he chooses what best suits him.
